Divorce and family law intake

Clio runs your cases. CDT intake runs the first conversation.

Clio, Smokeball and Lawmatics can be configured to collect intake. None of them comes ready for what makes divorce intake different: a client whose spouse may read their phone, Ohio's financial affidavits, and a conflict check that has to happen before the client shares details. Below is a side by side, checked against each company's own website and help center.

Does Clio already do this?

About half of it, and much of that half only after your firm sets it up. Booking, payments, e-signatures, a client portal and case management are strong in Clio. The safety and Ohio pieces are not there.

Does CDT intake replace Clio?

No. CDT intake hands each new client to Clio as a contact and matter, with documents attached. Your team keeps working where it works today.

What is different?

CDT intake is preset for Ohio divorce: safe contact first, a conflict check before details, divorce or dissolution sorted up front, and a checked draft of Affidavits 1 and 2 before the consult.

Where divorce intake breaks down

Most family law firms will recognize at least one of these. None of them means the firm is doing something wrong. Most intake tools are built for every kind of law, and divorce is not every kind of law.

The affidavit comes back

Take-home pay entered where gross belongs understates support income by 25 to 35 percent. Blank or "N/A" lines get sent back under Franklin County Local Rule 17.

Your team chases paperwork

Pay stubs, tax returns and statements, collected by email and phone between hearings, one reminder at a time.

They say too much, too soon

A prospective client who shares the story before a conflict check can keep your firm from representing the other spouse.

Ohio Rule 1.18; ABA Formal Opinion 510
The reminder reaches the wrong phone

A consult reminder or a "your divorce consultation" email can land where a spouse reads it. In a national survey, 97 percent of domestic violence programs said survivors were being monitored or harassed through technology.
